FOAMLESS = HOMELESS PREVIEW SHOTS

Some studio shots of my house mountain in progress. Just imagine it all with more foam and less plastic wrap. That's there so I can pull my houses out of the foam for moving.

MFA AUCTION (and other updates)

Apologies for the lack of updates recently.  Zoe & I try to post something up here at least once a week... but November has been quite busy.

First things first - I've been working like a madman in the print studio recently, and am working on two new litho's that fall in line with the one I recently posted (which btw - I decided looked better flipped around...) - when I can get a place with GOOD lighting, I'll post up all three

Also - scarves are coming back!  After a Skype conversation, we decided to make some more.  These will look very different than the first series.  I'm going to try and print them on Monday... so they'll be available just before Christmas

and Finally - the image for "Lost Sheep in Glasgow" will be available for sale at the Glasgow School of Art MFA Auction this December 3rd.  All the proceeds go to the MFA students' final show which will be held in Berlin (details on that a bit later)

It will be at The Birggait, 141 Bridgegate
6PM – Preview & Silent Auction with complimentary canapés and apéritifs
8:30PM – Live Auction begins

New Prints...

I just finished a series of new (large) litho prints in Glasgow...

The image is just over two feet wide and three feet tall.

There are two different versions of it: for one print, I 'fixed' some glitter by reprinting the blue layer (after finishing all the other colors) with just transparent base.  Immediately after printing that layer, I coated the paper with glitter - and it only stuck where the trans-base was.

Unfortunately - the lighting in the studio wasn't so hot (there's basically only those ceiling lights found in offices) and it was a particularly cloudy day.  They look incredible and vibrant in person, but on the wall, a spotlight is pretty much necessary.  Which is why I also included the original drawing at the bottom.

But anyways - I don't have a title yet, and I'm pretty sure that this image will be a part of the series relating to the "Saint Lucy" image

A DollHouse preview

So,  for the last 2 months I have been building dollhouses and drawing dollhouses, as a part of a sculpture/print piece I'm working during my first semester in grad school.
Here are some photos of a couple of houses I've finished and some of the prints that might go with the piece. More exciting dollhouse photos to come!

What We've Been Up To...

Sorry for the long delay in updates onto the blog...

Zoe has been diligently working on her dollhouse project in San Francisco - we'll have photo's of it up soon.

The "Business Birds" print was made available on our Etsy site, and it sold QUICKLY (only being available for one day.)  It was in an edition of 10, so we'll have another available in the near future.

Blake was a part of a small show at the GSA called "No White After Labour Day."  It consisted of work made over the summer by fellow Second Year MFA's at the Glasgow School of Art.

For the show, Blake included two portions from his "Truck Driver Series" - "Scene 10: Birdman of Athens, OH" and "Scene 11: Another One"

Also - Blake has been working on his "Saint Lucy" image some more.  He finally got the main image printed, and has added to some of the lines.  Next up is some flocking, and adding of some reflective surfaces.

At the bottom of this post are two more works-in-progress.  Carrying on from the original "Lost Sheep in Glasgow" project, Blake will be printing out one of the photographs Zoe took of him, but the areas of the 'sheep fluff' will be screen printed & flocked (the fluff area was made a bit grey to convey where the added texture is going to be).

News from San Francisco

Zoe writing:
So, I'm in San Francisco now, officially settled in. I'm in the MFA printmaking program at SFAI, and classes started a couple of weeks ago. I'm finally starting to move into my studio and begin work on a dollhouse project I've been planning for a while.
The graduate studios at SFAI are amazing, and include a full digital lab, woodshop and a gallery. As well as classrooms, lounge and a lecture hall. The studio is in a giant building filled with other design studios and manufacturers, including a wonderful smelling chocolatier!
Here's some photos from my studio:

SFAI studio hallways, orange doors for each studio block

One dollhouse down, 7 to go!

The lovely view from my studio window, you can see the bay peaking out in between the industrial stuff.
In other exciting news, our scarves can now be purchased at RGB on Fillmore street in the Marina! RGB is a women's clothing store and gallery. They have a steady rotation of really interesting shows.

Business Birds... yea - birds into 'business'...

Blake finally finished coloring / editing the collaborative image with Zoe: "Business Birds"
(although he might still make some further 'tweaks' on the birds, before the piece is printed)

The image is actually quite large, and will be available to purchase via our Etsy Site
...most likely before the end of next week.

New Projects

Apologies for the lack of updates on the blog... Blake and Zoe have been quite busy over the past few weeks, just for a quick rundown:

• Blake is still re-editing, doing color alterations, and soundtracking the stop-motion animation that we posted a preview image from earlier

Zoe is starting on a new project in San Francisco, using Doll Houses and some 'unique' materials (more on that later)

• Blake finally set up a SoundCloud Account, to host his mixes... he just posted something from a few days ago, click here

Blake is finally putting the finishing touches on a collaborative image that he was working on with Zoe earlier (preview below), called "Business Birds."  He just needs to 'amp up' the colors a bit more - basically, he's going to make the bird colors 'more like candy' and a bit fluorescent - instead of the more muted ones seen below:

• Blake is also working on a project relating to memory, beginning specifically with his experience with a statue of Saint Lucy, a preview image of the first part of the image is below the "Business Birds".  It will be print that combines digital & serigraph techniques with added sculptural portions.

San Francisco

Zoe writing:
Well, I've settled into San Francisco and am getting ready for grad school in September. In the mean time, I'm busy hemming new scarves and exploring the city. Here are a few shots taken in the Mission and Golden Gate park. Look out for some photos of the new scarves in the next couple of days!

update-y

Things have been reasonably active in the last week, since the last update...

Work continues on the stop-motion animation, Blake is revising the dialogue
There wasn't a final 'script' for the project when shooting began, so it's gotten a bit tricky
but it will look GREAT when it is finished.

Zoe is starting to settle into California, while Blake continues to ssssllllloooowwwwwlllllyyyyy
move his things into the new studio in Glasgow - and he's already started to have computer drama (again), the usb port on his external drive was damaged,
but hopefully everything will get sorted in the days to come

Zoe + Blake went to Minnesota...

Blake in front of the Weinermobile...

Blake and Zoe, recently reunited in the US, drove together to Minneapolis to go to the Walker Museum.  They also had a great lunch at "Joe's Garage."

The Walker had a great show curated by John Waters called "Absentee Landlord"

Although, for some reason - the ONLY photo's taken, were in front of the Weinermobile that showed up in the parking lot just before they left.
