new post

Missed a few days (again) but I have been keeping productive.

Unfortunately, a new print will take a few more days to be up for sale (but our etsy shop will be getting an update of some other stuff)

that's mainly just because I etched a litho stone incorrectly, so I have to restart from scratch!

something to tide you over....

one of my favorite things to show people on youtube. It's an interview with Public Image Limited on the Tom Snyder Show from 1980...

"We're not a band, we're a company... simple" -> sound familiar???

and here's also one of my favorite songs of theirs ->

New Mix by Joethelion

This live mix is presented in three parts, but I zipped them together into one file

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XIGN9JTD

tracklisting is included in the file. I don't think I'm going to post it here, b/c the last time I did... all my links were taken away...

That 'new image' I was referring to

Well - I finally got down to the studio. It STILL is snowing. I don't think it has stopped over the past two days, but anyways....

Here's that image I posted about earlier. I think I really dig it... and would look cool in a couple of different formats/ versions. I'm going to print it using photoplates, so the colors will end up looking a bit different (just b/c I'm doing it by hand)

I may also make a shirt of it.... I dunno...
It totally would not be sponsored by the "Mothers & Girlfriends Association of America"
So... the drawing that was going to be "the most erotic line" got waaaaaaaaaayyyyy more detailed, and waaayyyy more graphic than I originally wanted it to be...

and I got a few nasty looks - so I'm not gong to be printing it... at least not at this time. I think maybe it needs a little more work, so it looks more like a composition, other than a bunch of nudy bits...

but here's a 'stripped down' (ha) version of the image. It doesn't have all the poses, and - as you've probably noticed, I also took out all the lines

hmmm...
now that I think about it - maybe I should just use the shapes, but change around the colors a bit...

also I finished a completely new image, and I think I'm going to go ahead and print it today (even though I only started working on it about two hours ago.) I'd share it on here... but my computer keeps saying it has run out of memory.... so it'll have to wait till I get onto a proper desktop...

missed a day or two

Yea - so I didn't end up posting every day since my last... but hey - two within the same week? ...In my book - that's not all that bad. Especially as I still am doing that stereotypical "ooh what should I blog about" deal that everyone goes through who isn't Juno

but I digress...

I actually have an incomplete drawing to share. I'm working on three different ones now (and am thinking about another - but I can't let myself get too distracted). So anyways... right now it doesn't look like much. I just wanted a portrait to sort of 'anchor' the piece, and I think this piece might end up being part of this weird video project that I've been talking to Zoe about.

but what do you guys think? If I don't use the image for a collab piece, what should go in the big open white area? I was thinking about some big explosion (or whatever) and someone flying out of it....

Well - I might get to drawing now... I'm going to head down to the studio probably about.... 3 o'clock or so to grain a stone and get stuff ready for one of my drawings

(edit)
oh in case you were wondering - the other things I'm working on:
1) an Image with two chicks flexing
2) a piece that started as something called "The Most Erotic Line" ... which is slowly evolving into "How Many Naked People Can I Fit On One Page?"
3) they mystery 'fourth image' which will have: a naked prostitute handing her fur coat to Frida Kahlo, so that she can go to the bathroom; while a zombie keeps guard. Oh, all of this takes place in hell ... and is based on a true story

back in the saddle

So yea... I totally have not been great about regularly updating this blog. But, starting today - I PROMISE that there will be more regular updates (I'm aiming at daily ones, but I think I need to get a concise theme if I'm going to do that...)

also - it doesn't really help that "the man" took down the posts of my live mix sets
which makes no sense, as no one seemed to have troubles with my posting of individual songs by other artists....

so what's new with the Grocery?

• We now are selling our shirts & bags in Cedar Rapids, right across from Coe College at a store called The Shop Next Door if you're in town, you should totally stop by

• There are a few new designs over at our Etsy shop

• We are going to start doing more "one off" designs and alternate versions of pieces - instead of dedicating multiple shirts to just one image

• There is now a pretty sweet set of tote bags for people

...and that should be it for today

oh - and as a special gift.... here's something really cool that I found online.

It's a live radio special on the band, the Orb from 2006. Included in the folder, you'll find:
an hour-and-a-half mixset of the Orb's music (done by the guy hosting the show) and a great soundboard recording of the Orb from the "Okie Dokie It's the Orb on a Merry Car Tour"

I actually saw the Orb play on this tour, when I was living in Washington, DC. It was a great, but odd show. I brought my girlfriend (at the time) with me, and she was seriously one of maybe 2-3 girls there (and this was at the 9:30 Club... not a small place). Before the Orb played, Thomas Fehlmann played a "dex 'n fx"set of his own (he was/is 1/2 of the band). Alex Paterson (the leader of the band) hung out in the crowd during this part of the show (we had a brief conversation), then when Thomas was done, Alex just sort of jumped on stage... and the "proper show" began. When the Orb were finished, Thomas left - then Alex did a "Back to Mine" style dj set

There shouldn't be any issues with these files being online, as they're originally sourced from an online broadcast, and Alex Paterson himself said he didn't have a problem with this recording getting out.

Oh - and there will be a new mixset of my own coming out shortly... It's not going to be straight-forward dance-y and there will be a LOT of stuff going on (and more of my original productions/ edits) ... let's just say I'm kinda taking inspiration from the Orb (and FSOL)
